Kate, Nico, Maks, & Mati

In my last post, I showed you how a recent family session ended.  You can check out that post here.

For this post, I want to talk a little about this precious family and share the rest of my favorites from their session, as well as the little surprise that I was able to pull off for them (with the credit for that surprise going to my amazing husband).

I first met Kate, Nico, Maks, and Mati a little over a year ago. Kate had seen the work I had done for a mutual friend and contacted me about taking photos of her own family.  At the time, I had not done many sessions for people I didn’t know beforehand and I had yet to become super comfortable shooting families I didn’t know.  However, within minutes of meeting Kate and her crew, I felt like I had known them for years.  Our session was tons of fun, and I left that day super excited because I felt I had just completed one of my first true, lifestyle shoots.  Kate and Nico were all about having fun during their session, and instead of waiting for me to tell them what to do between shots, they continued their natural interactions as a family, which made my job super easy.  Their session was before I began this blog, so check out a few favorites from that shoot below.

Since that shoot, I have been blessed with other opportunities to see this sweet family.  Mati’s one-year photos were part of my first session after taking a little time off this past winter and the first session I blogged, which you can view here.  I also got to see Kate and Nico again when they ran in a local race to honor the sister of one of my best friends.  When Kate contacted me about her idea of a mild “Trash the Dress” session after their family session for their tenth anniversary, she wasn’t sure exactly how I would respond.  She didn’t know then that I had been dying to do something like this, and I was even more excited that such a special family was the one to ask me to do it.

As always, I had a blast photographing this family.  Kate and Nico are always incredibly kind, and Maks and Mati remind me so much of my own two boys that I can’t help but be insanely comfortable behind my camera while snapping photos of their sweet faces.  However, I had a little surprise for Kate and Nico this time.  I brought David along to my session and told them that David would be a second shooter to ensure that we captured all the awesome moments of their lake shots.  However, my husband wasn’t photographing their family.  He was videoing them.  For those who do not know David, he’s in insanely talented video producer.  You can check out his YouTube channel here.

This is what he made for Kate and Nico, who were completely surprised.  No one at the shoot (including Kate’s awesome mother, who is featured in one of the photos below) had any idea what David had planned, except for me.

Check out my favorites from Kate, Nico, Maks, and Mati’s session below.  I also included the grand finale collage from my last post as well, just in case you didn’t see that post.  🙂
